Color Throwdown #248

Hello everyone.....we have had such a wild couple of weeks around here!!! My son, David, was in the hospital with pneumonia and sepsis...he was a real sick puppy!!! We were taking turns staying with him and watching his kiddos so his wife could be with him. He finally went home on antibiotics and went to work today....yeaaaa!!! Anyway....it's Wednesday and time for another Color Throwdown Challenge!!!  Sweet Broni is the hostess this week and she loves soft beachy colors so I wasn't surprised when I saw her inspiration picture...isn't this beautiful!!!

My card features wood pieces from Kaiser Kraft and the sketch from Mojo Monday #299 Challenge. Canvas was used for the background banner piece and the doily was cut from Jelly Bean Soup's Southern Chickin Dumpling Soup dp.The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions Birds of a Feather set and the lace and twine finish.

Remember, you don't have to use the exact colors....use what you have as long as they are close to the challenge colors and be sure to add CTD248 to the keywords section when you upload your card to an online gallery so we can find your creations!!

Hello everyone....it's my turn to host this weeks Technique Lover's Challenge on Splitcoast and my challenge to you is to *angle the background*!! I just love the look of an angled background...here are the deets:

1. Cut two pieces of designer paper...you can use the same paper or two different sheets. I cut mine 4" x 5 1/4"
2. Stack them with right sides up ( you can use landscape or portrait) and cut your angle with a paper cutter.
3. You can make one side bigger than the other or try to make the top and bottom the same size...what ever flips your skirt!!
4. Now, adhere to your card base or another piece of card stock to create your background layer.
5. You can also just use one of the halves and let the card stock be the other half.

For my card, I used just the bottom half of the Teresa Collins paper and added the Memory Box diecut sentiment. The flags were cut by hand and the star border and flower both from Teresa Collins were added along with the twine. The angled layer was adhered to the Bashful Blue card base with foam tape.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you can join us for this weeks TLC challenge on Splitcoast Stampers!!!

Color Throwdown #247

Hello everyone....as you can see I am a little late with my Color Throwdown post...I was in the ER with my son yesterday evening, all night, and he was finally admitted this morning. You would think I'd learn not to put things off to the last minute...LOL!!! Any way...on with the show....it's Wednesday again and time for another Color Throwdown Challenge!!!

It's Bar's turn to host the challenge and she picked a patriotic theme for this week!! July 4th will be here before we know it!!!

I decided to make a patriotic card using papers from Pebbles and stamps from Taylored Expressions Delightful Day set.  The flags were cut free hand and  a die was used for the rick rack. The little pinwheels were stamped on the paper, cutout, and paper pieced...pearls were added to the centers and the the twine finishes it off.

Remember, you don't have to use the exact colors....use what you have as long as they are close to the challenge colors and be sure to add CTD247 to the keywords section when you upload your card to an online gallery so we can find your creations!!

Taylored Expressions June Studio Challenge

It's time for the Baker's Dozen Studio Challenge.  This is a monthly opportunity for the Taylored Expressions team to share what makes our stamping studios hum.  Each month we  have a fun, crafty question so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more.

The question for June is:
What's on your summer reading list?  Are you a big reader or not?  If you are, what books have you read lately that you would recommend?  Do you have a favorite author or genre? How about something for sitting out by the pool, or the beach, or even just the backyard...some nice light summer reading?
Do you use fancy bookmarks or do you dog-ear your pages?  Or, do you use an e-reader? Everyone can use bookmarks and they make great favors and gifts.  Let's see a little inspiration!

My Mother and I both love to read and we share almost all our books.....we both like Ken Follett and David Baldacci. There is nothing like a good murder mystery to get your blood pumping!! We have also started the Ladies of Covington  series and I gotta tell you, this is such a wonderful series and I highly recommend it...it's a perfect read for a lazy summer day sitting on the back porch swing with a glass of sweet tea!!!  However, our favorite books to read are cook books so we really enjoyed reading Julie and Julia.....it's a fun story by Julie Powell about how she spent a year making every single recipe in Julia Childs French Cooking cook book.  I remember watching Julia's French cooking show on TV many years ago...she was a hoot!!!

For my project I decided to make my Mother a set of bookmarks for her cookbooks. She always use bookmarks and would never lend me another cookbook if I dog eared any of the pages...LOL!!! White card stock was used for the base of both bookmarks and the fun retro papers are from the Mom's Diner Cookbookin Recipe scrapbook Kit from PJK Designs. The stamps and sentiments from Taylored Expressions What's Cookin set were all paper pieced and a few Copic touches were added. I resisted popping up any of the cutout stamped images so the bookmarks would remain flat. Baker's Twine adds the finishing touch.

I also decided to make a matching recipe card for each bookmark...Mom is going to love these!!!

Isn't this sentiment fun....*I never trust a skinny chef*...LOL!!!

How would you like to see some awesome inspiration from the fabulous Baker's Dozen Design team...check it out!!!

Thanks for stopping by...have a great day!!!!

Color Throwdown #246

Hello everyone....it's Wednesday again and time for another Color Throwdown Challenge!!!
This week Wanda is the hostess with the mostess and I absolutely love the colors she picked!!! I never would have put Rich Razzleberry and Blushing Bride together but thanks to Wanda, I will be doing it more often!!!

I used the Retro Sketch #67 for the layout and Bo Bunny's Little Miss designer paper for the background. Can you see the little girls in the bottom corner....I thought they looks so sweet and would be perfect with the sentiment from Taylored Expressions Happy Heart set.  A little sewing, distressing, twine, and a pearl flourish finish it off.

Remember, you don't have to use the exact colors....use what you have as long as they are close to the challenge colors and be sure tp add CTD246 to the keywords section when you upload your card to an online gallery so we can find your creations!!

TLC433 Pop Up Part of the Sentiment

Hello everyone!!! I hope you had a great weekend!!! We went to my Granddaughter CJ's high school graduation Saturday afternoon and then spent the rest of the night at  her party!!! My son and his wife put on quite a spread....lots of BBQ, games, horse shoes, and lots of family and friends to celebrate!! Needless to say, it was kinda hard to get up for church this morning...LOL!!! CJ spent the night at her high school lock down...the school gave away $25,000.00 worth of prizes to the kids!! Today she spent with friends tubing down the Guadalupe River...awwww, to be a teenager again!!!  Anyway....

It's my turn to host the Technique Lover's Challenge on Splitcoast and my technique is to  *pop up part of the sentiment*. I have seen lots of cards out there in blog land that have used this technique....some are quite elaborate with lots of different die cuts to pop up a word or 2 of a sentiment stamp or just pop up one of the words in a two word sentiment like I did with my card.

So take your pick...go simple with popping up just one word of a two or three word sentiment or go fancy smancy with popping up several words of a larger sentiment stamp but remember...the main object is to have fun!!!!!

My card features the June Reverse Confetti SFYTT #1 and the feather and sentiment from Reverse Confetti's Peacock Pretties set. The feather was inked up with Pool Party and rock and rolled with Rich Razzleberry before stamping it on the white card stock and the main image layer. The sentiment was stamped with black on the main image layer and them stamped again on a piece of scrap white card stock with Pool Party.  The Hello was cutout with a word window punch and popped up with foam dots. The Washi Tape finishes it off.

Thanks for stopping by tonight and I hope you can join us for this weeks TLC challenge on Splitcoast!!!

Taylored Expressions June Spotlights - It's a Patriotic Day!!!

Hello everyone!!! Today is the last day of the Taylored Expressions June Release....I hope you enjoyed all the fabulous samples from the Baker's Dozen Design Team this week!!! What is your favorite stamp set???  I don't think I could pick a favorite because I love everything...the stamps, die cuts, the cutting plates, and the project pantry kits!!!! You can find all the June Release goodies in the Fresh Out of the Oven section of Taylored Expressions!!!

Today is Designer Spotlight Day and we were able to choose whatever product we wanted to feature today.  I just love the papers, card stock, and ribbons from the Patriotic  Project Pantry Kit so I made two patriotic cards.

The kit includes Doodlebug papers, card stock, and lots of yummy ribbon!! Check out the card in the middle of the bottom row...that was my card from Tuesday....Whoohoo!!!!

My first card features the sweet little bird from the Delightful Day set...it was paper pieced with the aqua paper from the kit and the flag was also made from one of the kit papers.....a toothpick was used for the handle. The banners were made with papers and ribbons from the kit and the sentiment is from Taylored Expressions 4th of July Wreath set

The Graphic Greetings - Patriotic stamp was stamped with Versamark onto red card stock from the Patriotic Project Pantry kit and then it was embossed with white embossing powder. The edges were distressed along with the white and blue matting layers. The Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate was cut out of the blue card stock in the kit and adhered to the background dp also from the kit. The ribbon was wrapped around the background layers and the crimped star, button, and twine finish it off.

Now, are you ready to see some awesome inspiration from the Baker's Dozen Design team??

Taylored Expressions June Sneak Peek - Delightful Day and Teacup Bouquet

Hello everyone and welcome to day two of the Taylored Expressions June Sneak Peeks!! Weren't the sample cards from yesterday awesome...the Baker's Dozen  is such a fabulous design team and I am so thrilled and honored to stamp along side them as the Guest Designer for the last two months!!!

Yesterday I went masculine with the surfer dude and a patriotic card. Today I am going feminine and a little shabby. My first card features stamps from the Delightful Day set.  This set was previously released in 2012 as a KI exclusive set and now it's available to everyone!!!   The little birds were paper pieced with some scrap papers and the wings were popped up with foam dots. The leaf stamp was used to stamp a wreath using Wild Wasabi and Certainly Celery inks. The background papers are from Basic Grey's True Love and the seam binding,  sequins, distressing, and a little sewing  finish it off.

Don't you just love this sweet teacup image....it's called Teacup Bouquet and it was so much fun to color!!! Copics were used for the coloring and the the perfect plum card stock in the background was embossed with a tiny heart folder. I couldn't help it...just had to add a few sequins to the doily in the background and the seam binding is the finishing touch.

Remember, tomorrow is Release day at Taylored Expressions, 8:00 AM PST!!!

Now, are you ready to see more sneak peeks from the Baker's Dozen Design Team?? Check it out!!

Taylored Expressions June Sneak Peek: Ride the Wave and Graphic Greetings - Patriotic

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 1 of  Taylored Expressions June Sneak Peeks!!!! The June release is absolutely fabulous and I can't wait to tell you about my samples!!! As you know  I have lots of men and boys in my family so I was really drawn to the Ride the Wave set....it's perfect for masculine cards and the Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate adds such a fun and awesome detailed background!!!! The surfer was stamped with Basic Gray onto the Pool Party die cut and the Ray of Sunshine Cutting Plate was cut out of  Basic Gray and layered over the patterned paper in the background. The cute little surfboards were stamped onto white card stock with Pool Party ink and the sentiments were stamped with Basic Gray. Basic Gray matting was used behind the surfboards and surfer image and the Baker's Twine finishes it off.

My next card was made with the Graphic Greetings - Patriotic stamp and the Patriotic Project Pantry

The Basic Recipe Kit includes the following coordinating supplies:
Doodlebug Stars & Stripes 6x6 Paper Pad (24 double-sided sheets)
8 sheets of 8.5" x 11" cardstock (2 sheets each of 4 different colors)
5 yards of ribbon (1 yard each of 5 different styles)

The Graphic Greetings - Patriotic stamp was stamped with Brilliant Blue and sewing was done around the edges. The stars were punched out of the red card stock in the project pantry kit, the holes were made with the piercing tool, and twine was laced through the holes. The banner was made with twine and the Doodlebug papers.

Tomorrow will be Day 2 of the Sneak Peeks and then the June release will be Thursday morning, June 6th at 8 am PST.
