I was going to do a little stamping today but we got a call from the animal rescue people
to come pick up the Morgan mare we had been waiting to adopt. Her name is Midnight and she is 12 years old. She was a show horse until her owners got a divorce and the horses were left to fend for themselves. Midnight and 15 other mares were in one field and the two stallions were in another until someone delivering hay put them all in the same field. Well, wouldn't ya know all 16 mares got pregnant!!! This is Midnight's first baby so we will be watching her close!!
She has been living in a muddy field without grass for years, just living on hay. She is in pretty good health considering ...she was really excited to chomp down on that yummy green grass!! You can see the back of my DD's house up on the hill. They have such a beautiful view to the west...they love to sit out on the back porch and watch the gorgeous Texas sunsets!!

She hasn't had a bath or her mane and tail combed for years....her hoofs are a mess, too!! The furrier is coming on Tuesday to give her a pedicure (can ya tell I'm a city girl...LOL!!)
She is so sweet and gentle...I can't wait for the grandkids to meet her!!!
You should of seen the cows and baby calves come to check her out....I think they wanted to get ahold of Midnight's hay!!!
This is our sweet little baby donkey who was born on November 3, 2009...on my DGD Mackenzie's birthday. That is why we named him Mack.
Big Brother Larry was born March 11, 2008 on my cousin Larry's birthday....
Our friends, David and Susan, went with us today to help...Susan is checking out Midnight's tail. It is so full of cockle burrs that it just hangs in one big clump. Susan used to have horses so she is going to give this old city girl lessons on how to take care of a horse. I wonder if my OB nursing skills will come in handy when she is ready to deliver...LOL!!!

Even a retired nurse, city girl can become a real Texas cowgirl!! All you need is a horse!! I know you already have boots and a hat!!
Bless you heart, Joan! I'm sure Midnight will be incredibly happy in her new home!

See how much I know! I didn't even know you lived on a farm!! I *love* your new horse. Sigh. I grew up with Morgan horses across the street and got to go groom them and love them occasionally. Sigh. Wish I could come and love on that new baby when it's born! Your baby donkey is adorable, too!
Joan!! How cool! My husband is an equine vet so I know what you are going thru right now! What fun, baby horses are so darn cute!! Their little hoofs are so sweet and their little chins and so hug-able! You guys will have so much fun with the new baby!

I can't wait to get down in there to see my new "sister!!" We'll have to set aside a place to put brushes and nail polish (hee hee!!) for Midnight and her new baby. :-)
She is so pretty! I know Holly will love her new sis
Love, love, loved hearing about the animals! Somehow I've missed that you do rescue work! Divorce can be so messy -- but the story sounds like something out of "Animal Police -- Joan's House"!
How wonderful you are able to give this horse a good home. In no time she will be beautiful.....and a Mommy!! Keep us posted. I love the pictures!!
Yeehaw!!Looks like you are starting your own ranch now, Joan!! I'll bet those nursing skills are going to come in handy for sure!!! Keep us posted!!! This is exciting!!!
Wow how lucky is Midnight to have you as her mom!! City chick or not! She is beautiful Joan and I loved seeing the other animals that you have! Thanks for sharing the pictures and can't wait to see Midnight's baby!!
So thankful for people like you, Joan. How folks can abandon animals like that is beyond me. Midnight will have a wonderful life from now on though. God bless! (Oh and I love the pictures and am hoping you'll share some pics of the new little one when it arrives!)
I love reading this rescue story, Joan. I find it so hard to believe that people can go off and leave animals like they are only a possession and not a living being. Ugh! Midnight looks wonderful and I love seeing the donkeys and cows. I love all the hair on Mack.
I didnt' know you had a farm.. I am a farm gal too. I am so loving all these photos.. How awesome that Midnight is coming to live with you. She looks so sad. I could go on and on about farm life.. I miss that life. I grew up in northern IL and my dad still has the family farm.. My girls all showed steers in 4-H. Great pictures Joan.. Made me homesick..:)
Love all the pictures and your new family member! I must say that the baby donkey and his daddy stole my heart! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Keep us posted! Hugs!
Those are wonderful pictures, Joan! Thanks so much for sharing them with us. Good for you, city girl, for taking on adopting that beautiful horse. And I LOVE Mack's winter fur coat. That's gorgeous!
Congratulations on the new addition to your family Joan! She's one lucky horse (and baby too)
Oh my gosh, Joan! Congrats on that beautiful new little girl and on her new little one soon to be there!! She's SO LUCKY that you have adopted her! And little Mack is just too precious for words!!
Oh my gosh, what adorable photos....and what an awesome thing to adopt Midnight. She's sweet!
oh my goodness, Joan! What a fabulous addition to your family!! I grew up with horses, on a farm, and I miss them terribly!
It's sad to see how people treat their animals but it's people like YOU that come to save them....thank you!
Best of luck with the delivery! That's also so exciting! I've seen one born and it's interesting...lol!
How wonderful that you saved this dear horse Joan - isn't she beautiful - so sorry to hear she lost her baby - but at least now she can gain strength herself and heal.
And I LOVE your fuzzy/furry little donkey - how do you not just hug him all the day long!!! he is SO CUTE!!!
Your daughter's home looks wonderful - what a glorious place to live and have animals!
