Technique Lover's Challenge #286 - Ribbon Butterflies Tutorial

Hello everyone!!! It's my turn to host the TLC challenge on Splitcoast this week and I have a real fun one for ya!!! I bet you have a boat load of ribbon scraps just like mine....let's use them to make something fun!!! My challenge is called *anything but a bow or knot*....that's right....no bows or knots with the ribbons!!! I want you to think of some creative way to use your ribbon scraps!!
I am going to show you how to make some ribbon butterflies which use about 1 1/2 inches of 7/8" ribbon and a little twine or wire.

Wrap the twine around the ribbon piece and tie a knot (this kind of knot is OK...giggle) at the edge, gathering the ribbon in the middle as you tighten the knot.

Tie a double knot to secure and fluff the wings....

Leave about a half inch of the twine for the antennas.

The green polka dot 1 1/2" wide ribbon was used for the flower bases....they were cut with a Stampin Up! flower die and glued to the card over the ribbon stem. The leaves were cut with a die from green grosgrain ribbon and the edges were ruffed up a little. The orange gingham ribbon was gathered with a needle and thread along one of the long edges...I started out with about 3 inches of ribbon and after gathering I sewed the two short side edges together, glued the flowers to the green bottom layer and added the buttons with twine. The sentiment is from Nina Brackett's Elegant Post set.

Recipe:
Stamps: Nina Brackett's Elegant Post
Paper: White, Old Olive, The Paper Studio dp
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Ribbons, Twine, Buttons
Here is another sample using wire and a different shaped butterfly.

This ribbon is 5/8 inches so it was a little easier to work with. Attach the wire the same as the twine and twist the ends to secure.

I curled the antennas on the end of a paint brush for a fun, whimsical look.

The ribbon strip was also gathered with the wire...the ends were left long enough to slip on the button, twist the ends to secure the button, and curl the ends.

The pearl flourish and the sentiment from Rubbernecker's Party Time set finishes it off.
Recipe:
Stamps: Rubbernecker's Party Time
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Mellon Mambo, Kiwi Kiss, Webster's Pages dp
Accessories: Ribbon, Buttons, Copper Wire, Zva Pearl Flourish

I hope you have fun with this challenge.....I can't wait to see what everyone creates!!!

Stamp TV CSS Alumni Blog Hop

Hello everyone and welcome to another Stamp TV Center Stage Spotlight Alumni Blog Hop...Whoohoo!!! We are all excited to get together so we can share ideas and provide you with lots of inspiration!!! Carolina's challenge to us today is to use this sketch:

The van from Rupa Shevde's Are We There Yet? set was stamped with Not Quite Navy onto Ocean Mist cardstock. An aqua pen was used to spread the ink around a bit and then the image was cutout and attached to the circle layers with foam tape. The sentiment was stamped with Not quite Navy on vanilla cs, cutout and run through the cuttlebug with a round Nestie to emboss the right edge. The ribbon, buttons, and twine finish it off.
Recipe:
Stamps: Are We There Yet?
Paper: Old Olive, Not Quite Navy, vanilla, Making Memories Panorama dp

Thanks for joining us today!!! Hopefully you came from Jennie's blog...wasn't her card AWESOME!!!!!! Now hop on over to Joy's blog for some beautiful inspiration...they both do such fabulous art work!!!!

Embroidered Appliques

Hello everyone!!! It's been a real hot day here so we took the Grandkids to the movies this afternoon and guess what was going on when we got out at 6:30 PM...rain!!! We are having the craziest weather this year!!! In years past we have been all burned up by August...the grass along the roadsides and our lawns were usually brown but not this year....everything is still green and lush...am I really in Texas???? We got home, ordered a pizza, and now Grandma is sneaking a little computer time...whoohoo!!!!
I made a card this morning at 6:00 AM before the kids got up and finally found time to upload.
I bought these gorgeous embroidered appliques at Hancock Fabrics a few months ago because I thought they would look beautiful on a card. I paired them with Nina Brackett's Hugs and Prayers stamps and Bo Bunny's Jazmyne's dp. The solid bird stamp was inked up with Pale Plum and rock and rolled with Rich Razzleberry...love that color!!! The ribbon, button, and twine finish it off.

Paper: Vanilla, Prism Razzleberry Medium, Bo Bunny Jazmyne dp

It seems Boscoe needs recruits.....big bad baseball brutes.....but he has to draw the line somewhere, they gotta be dogs! If you bring a belly draggin short little Bassethound, he better be good or you're coming in the back door!

I used stickers from Jolee's and Recollections and paper from Paper House Productions to create my card....what a fun card and just perfect for a special baseball player. This week we are sending our cards to a little 10 year old boy who is a baseball player through and through and a member of the Elm Grove Eagles! His name is Andrew...he has some major medical problems and I know he will love all the cards we are going to send his way!!

Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger

Hello everyone....I am just a couple of days late with the Tuesday Trigger but who's counting...LOL!!! We are leaving to pick my sister up at the airport so this is going to be short and sweet.
I used Mercy's Tuesday Sketch, Melanie Muenchinger's fabulous Gifts from the Sea set, and inspiration from Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger for my card today. Isn't this picture soft and girly....it just screams shabby!!! The sea shells and sentiment were all embossed with gold ep and the *waves* were torn from Blush Blossom cardstock and embossed with gold ep on the edges. The heart stick pin was used for the Ways to Use it Challenge on Splitcoast today. The lace and Prima Pearl Flourish finish it off.
Recipe:
Stamps: Gifts From the Sea
Paper: Vanilla, Blush Blossom, Prism Blush Red Medium
Ink: Versamark

Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Challenge

Whoohoo!!! Da Mudder (Mothermark aka Cindy) asked me to make a sample card for her Teapot Tuesday Challenge on Splitcoast...I am doubly excited because she is featuring a teapot from here in Texas!!! A while back we were driving to Houston and drove by a huge water tank thingy that someone had made into a giant teapot. Don't ya know I yelled for my DH to STOP THE CAR...he thought I was having some kind of an attack!!! Anyway, I got the pictures and sent them to Cindy...I just knew she would have the same attack I had...LOL!!! Anyway....here is the link to the Teapot Tueday Challenge...be sure to check out the picture of the giant teapot, Cindy's story and the destination for this weeks cards!!!

My card features the girls from the old 1970's TV show Petticoat Junction...Penelope, Blossom, and Bea....The Penny Black image was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black, embossed with clear ep, and watercolored with Tombow markers. The little flowers on the hats were popped up and sewing and piercing was done around the edges. Lace, felt flowers, button, and a scalloped border finish it off.

Thanks for looking and be sure to gather up all your petticoats, bloomers, and tea and come to the party!!!!

Plaid Silhouettes Tutorial

Hello everyone!!! I am hosting the Technique Lover's Challenge again on Splitcoaststampers and I have a super fun technique for you today!!! It's something that I developed a while ago for silhouette stamps...ya know those solid stamps that are so hard to get ink to cover evenly!! I decided to try and make a plaid look by tapping the edge of the ink pad in a spaced pattern first going from left to right and then to flip the stamp and go from right to left.

For the leaf stamp I first stamped a base color of Mustard Seed over the whole stamp.
Then, at an angle starting at the top of the leaf, I used the edge of the Crushed Olive ink pad to hit the stamp every 1/4 to 1/2 inch all the way down.

Then I started at the top again only angled the other direction and again, hit the stamp with the edge of the Pealed Paint ink every 1/4 to 1/2 inch all the way down the stamp.

Stamp onto white or vanilla cardstock...

Tada...it's plaid!!!!

I entered this in the Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge #5 to use black and white and a splash of color.
Recipe:
Stamps: Rubbernecker Fall Trilogy and Rubbernecker Floral Silhouettes set #467
Paper: White, Black, Basic Grey's Origins dp
Ink: Mustard Seed, Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint, Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories: Nestabilities, Silk Ribbon, Pearls, Foam Tape

This is another stamp I used for the plaid technique....this time instead of hitting the edge of the ink pad on the stamp I lowered the ink pad slightly and used a little more of the ink pad to create a wider plaid look.
Tap the ink pad first from left to right.....

and then flip the stamp and tap the ink pad on the stamp from the right to left. You can use as many colors as you want or use only one color...you can still achieve the plaid look.

I did not use a base color on this one because I lowered the ink pad a little more and color hit the stamp each time I hit the stamp. I used Spiced Marmalade, Warn Lipstick, and Pealed Paint.

Recipe:
Stamps: Rubbernecker Floral Silhouettes #467
Paper: White, Black, Old Olive, Basic Grey Stella Ruby dp
Ink: Warn Lipstick, Spiced Marmalade, Pealed Paint
Accessories: Lace, Ribbon, Black Rhinestone Flourish, Candy Dots, EK Success Scallop Border Punch
Can ya tell I am having fun with this technique?? I just had to make one more....
The base color is Pretty in Pink....then for the plaid lines I used Tempting Turquoise and Certainly Celery. I made the lines with the very edge of the ink pad because it is a real small cake image.

The second cake uses Pretty in Pink as the base and Regal Rose for the plaid lines.

Recipe:
Stamps: Rubbernecker's Party Time #442
Paper: White, Basic Grey Lime Ricky dp, Stampin Up! dp
Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Cetainly Celery, Pretty in Pink
Accessories: Ribbon, Nestabilities, Button, Twine

Thanks for visiting and now get out those solid stamps and make a little plaid!!!!
